Chancel Choir

Definition and Mission

The Chancel Choir is a part of the congregation which has been given special music-making and musical worship leading responsibilities. It is not a separate entity but part of the congregation with a primary function to serve our congregation and to support the work of our clergy.

Rehearsal

Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7:15-8:00 p.m. and are located in the Sanctuary.

Who is Welcome?

The Chancel Choir is open to all singers High School age and above. There is no audition required. We have singers of all levels, those with little choral background to the very accomplished with a lifetime of choral experience. This unique group is bound together through its love of Christ and the joy of making great choral music in his worship. New singers are always welcome. To sing with the Chancel Choir simply attend a rehearsal, or for more information contact Linda Soukup at 319-653-5446.

  • An attitude of service towards other members of the group as well as members of our congregation.
  • The ability to read music, especially chord charts and lead sheets, as well as a demonstrated proficiency on your instrument.
  • Attending all rehearsals for the Sunday morning worship services as well as any other extra rehearsals that may be needed.

Adult Hand Bells

“Bells Canto” meets Wednesdays in the Bell room 6:30-7:15 p.m.  Norman Brooks is the director. Playing the bells is an excellent opportunity for fellowship and music-making. The group rehearses just before Chancel Choir, making it a convenient opportunity for someone who wants to participate in both groups.
