If you are the parent of a Senior High Student, God Bless YOU!  You are succeeding in the most important job of all, parenting a teenager!  By now,  your student has a good grip on their ideas, opinions and probably faith.  If so, sitting with them once a week to “catch up” on God talk or ask them about a God Sighting is a great way to connect.  Maybe they (and possibly you) are new at the faith thing.  Here are a few ideas we have to share with you for discussion topics and Scripture readings!  Let us know how your you are connecting with God, we LOVE to get updates!

In Senior High, we use the Faithweaver Curriculum.  Here, you will find the Fall lesson plans, and ideas that you may use with your Senior High Students. I personally hope you find this Parent Page to be useful, helpful and that you will enjoy connecting with your child on a Spiritual level.  I’m praying for you!

Bible Point: God Created The World

Key Verse: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” -Genesis 1:1

Weaving Faith Into Life: Recognize the evidence of God in creation and praise Him for it!

Faith Journal: What do your observations about creation tell you about God’s identity and character? Explain.

Driving Home the Point: “To think you can find God only in a church is absurd as thinking you can find great works of art only in a gallery. To suppose God is confined beneath a steeple is to suppose drama is confined to the stage, music to the concert hall, or animals to the zoo.”

Talking at Home: Read Romans 1:20 and discuss the following questions:

According to this verse, what does God’s creation tell us about God’s nature?

What does God’s amazing attention to detail tell us about the way God
feels about His creation?

What are parts of the natural world that you especially enjoy? You may think of your favorite vacation spots or physical examples, such as a family pet. Discuss how you feel about God when you’re enjoying your favorite parts of nature.

Daily Challenge®: Spend time outside praising God for the beauty of creation.

Identify a tough situation, and ask God to bring light and hope.

Share with a friend that God is the Creator.

What do you think it means to be created in God’s image?

What can we as humans do about the sin that separates us from God?

Have you ever had a relationship become broken or strained because of a conflict? What did you do? Share our thoughts.

Daily Challenge®: Keep the TV off this week to avoid temptation

Read God’s Word to keep your mind off temptation, and get to know Jesus better.

When your friends tempt you with something you know is wrong, be strong and stand your ground.

Faith Journal: How do you think the choices you make in your own life affect members of your family?

Driving Home the Point: “When is the last time you said ‘I love you’ to your parents? Sure, they make mistakes. But no matter how your parents act, God commands you to love them.” -Greg Speck, Living for Jesus When the Party’s Over.

Talking at Home: Read the “love chapter” (1 Corinthians 13) and discuss these questions:

What do you think would happen if you treated each other according to the advice given in this chapter?

What are some practical ways you could live out the words in this chapter in your family life?

Daily Challenge®: Celebrate with a family member when he or she does well at something.

Help a family member with something (even something you don’t like doing)

Give your parents a break – take over their responsibilities for a night.

October 2

Bible Point: God Wants Us To Obey

Key Verse: “Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than men!’” -Acts 5:29

Weaving Faith Into Life: Commit to obey God in a specific area of your life. No matter what challenges you face.

Faith Journal: How do you think your obedience to God, even in times of pressure, might affect people around you?

Driving Home the Point: “Slowly I have realized that I do not have to be qualified to do what I am asked to do, that I just have to go ahead and do it, even if I can’t do it as well as I think it ought to be done.” -Madeleine L’Engle, Glimpses of Grace

Talking at Home: Discuss these questions:

Do you think Noah felt qualified to do what God asked of him?

What “qualifications” did Noah need to fulfill the will of God?

What qualifications do we need to fulfill the will of God?

Read Psalm 86:11 and discuss these questions:

What does it mean to have an undivided heart?

In what ways did Noah show that his heart was undivided?

In what ways could you show that your heart is undivided?

Have you ever been ridiculed or put down for doing what you knew was right? What happened? Share those situations with the members of your family. How do you think God might use your obedience to him in the lives of other people?

Daily Challenge®: Tell someone else about a relationship with Jesus, as God tells us to do.

Talk to God to find out what God wants you to do to serve Him.

Obey your parents as God commands.

Bible Point: God’s Promises Are Always Reliable.

Key Verse: “The Lord is faithful to all his promiese and loving toward all he has made.” -Psalm 145:13b

Weaving Faith Into Life: Rely on God’s promises when you face challenges in your daily life.

Faith Journal: How has God proved the reliability of his promises to you?

Driving Home the Point: “Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.” -Psalm 119:90

Talking at Home: Read Matthew 6:33 and discuss the following questions:

What does this verse mean to you?

What has God promised in this verse?

Do you think this promise is reliable? Why or why not?

What are some ways you can make the choice to seek God’s kingdom first in your own life?

How good are you at keeping your promises? Ask your family to try this experiment:

Give each family member 10 pennies.

Each time someone is “busted” for breaking a promise, that person will be cordially invited to donate one penny to the jar.

After a week, count the pennies in the jar.  How might things have been different if all the family members had kept all of their promises (and all of their pennies)?  Why is it important for God to be a promise keeper?

Read and think about Numbers 23:19

Daily Challenge®: As you try to live your life in a Christ-like way toward your friends, trust God for courage and guidance.

Trust God for strength to love a family member who may not seem the most loveable.

Ask God for support in a tough situation or obstacle this week.
